Work meeting to discuss legislative changes

On March 7, 2017, a meeting was held in Sofia to discuss legislative changes to reduce domestic violence and in accordance with the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence (the so-called Istanbul Convention) . On behalf of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Convention was signed by the Minister of Justice on 21 April 2016. In view of the introduction of the principles and requirements of the Istanbul Convention before its ratification in Bulgarian law, legislative amendments were developed within the project in the civil and criminal fields - Amendments to the Law on Protection against Domestic Violence, the Criminal Code, the Family Code, the Protection against Discrimination Act, the Ministry of the Interior Act, the Law on Youth, the Act on And legal aid and others.
The legislative proposals were discussed in detail with representatives of the non-governmental and academic sector, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, the Ministry of Health and others.
